The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city centre. The bombing in 1945 destroyed the entire city centre however after the World War II restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Zwinger and the famous Semper Oper. Dresden is also known for lots of shopping possibilities.



Sanssouci is the summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, in Potsdam, near Berlin. It is often counted among the German rivals of Versailles.



Terezín concentration camp, also referred to as Theresienstadt ghetto was a concentration camp established by the SS during World War II.
